Why Sleep Won’t Fix Your Burnout (And What Will)

If you need coffee to wake up and melatonin to sleep, your nervous system is fried.

You don’t have an energy problem.
You have a friction problem.

Your exhaustion isn’t from a lack of sleep—it’s from too much stimulation.

Your brain never actually shuts off.

  • Phone checks first thing in the morning.

  • Slack, emails, notifications flooding your system all day.

  • Late night scrolling, even when you know you shouldn’t.

Your nervous system is stuck in overdrive.
And NO amount of sleep will fix it.

The Fix:

Tonight, do this before bed: (ideally more often!)

  • Inhale for 4 seconds.

  • Exhale for 8 seconds.

Do this 5 times.

By extending the exhale, you're activating your parasympathetic nervous system, signaling to your body it’s time to unwind.

Observe what happens.

This simple act forces your nervous system to downshift.

Without it, you’ll stay wired—no matter how much sleep you get.

*Bonus points for measuring the downshift and gamifying the speed.

As promised, mastery in under a minute.
